The International Labour Organization (ILO) is an agency of the United Nations that was established in 1919. It was created with the goal of promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labor rights. The ILO’s mandate includes both direct technical cooperation as well as convening, consulting, and informing member countries about work-related issues.
The ILO’s labor committee deals with two types of topics: 1) those involving international labor standards and 2) those involving employment issues or any other topic related to work.
The Labor Committee is a group of 15 Senate Democrats who are aligned in their desire to push for policies that will raise wages and create more economic opportunity.
The Labor Committee has been working on a number of bills that would improve the lives of workers, including S. 2126, which would close the wage gap between men and women by preventing employers from asking job applicants about their previous salaries. They also have an agenda to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour and pass legislation that would provide paid sick days for all working Americans.
